about me
I have been involved with Living History for almost 20 years. I have a B.A. in History from the University of Akron. For 10 years I have studied the life of Henry Thoreau and since moving to Concord, Massachusetts in 1999 I have successfully performed as Thoreau throughout New England.
I have appeared as Thoreau on tv and dvd: in 2001 I was featured (twice!) on C-Span's "American Writes" series and I also appeared on the Boston television program "Chronicle." I can also be seen in the recent Thoreau Society dvd "Life With Principle", looking philosophical and pensive as Henry!
I frequently appear at Walden Pond, where Thoreau lived for 2 years, 2 months, and 2 days (1845 - 1847). I have done Living History programs at other historical sites in Concord, including the Old Manse, Orchard House, the Concord Museum, First Parish Church, and Minuteman National Historical Park.
Like Thoreau, I sometimes even leave Concord! I have appeared at some of the places that Thoreau visited, including Lowell, Boston, Salem, Fitchburg, Framingham and Cape Cod in Massachusetts; Brattleboro, Vermont; and Moosehead Lake, at Greenville, Maine.
I have even been places where Henry never visited, like Gatlinburg, Tennessee; Newark, New Jersey; and Akron, Ohio!
I appear regularly as Thoreau for many schools in the Concord area and in Eastern Massachusetts. I have had a lot of success doing public readings of Thoreau's essays for libraries, historical societies and church groups, most notably, "Life Without Principle", "A Plea For Captain John Brown", "Civil Disobedience" and "Walking".
Want to meet Henry Thoreau? I am available for groups of all sizes, and I have appeared at schools and public events of all kinds. As Thoreau, I can come to you or arrangements can be made to meet me at Walden Pond State Reservation in Concord, Massachusetts.
